I quit my old job
Bought myself a coffee shop
And then wrote our book
(haiku 31)
But then, at some point,
I saw my life through the years
Just slipping away
(haiku 30)
Once, my friend told me
“Move on, but just don’t forget”
I barely heard words.
(haiku 29)
Now ev’ry morning
I visit her sleeping place
No coffee… ever
(haiku 28)
Time passed slowly by
I knew my friends were worried
But I didn’t change
(haiku 27)
I became a ghost
Seeing, doing, not feeling
And never sleeping
(haiku 26)
“I’m sorry.” she choked out, barely forming words.
He stared at her, not knowing how to respond. He didn’t know how to explain, in the least cliche sounding way, how he felt. How he could never actually bring himself to hate her like the others did. He should’ve, oh, he knows he should’ve, but he couldn’t. He literally… just couldn’t. He loved her too much, loved her shiny blond hair and bright eyes. He loved her loud laugh and light voice, the way she smiled at him when she thought no one was looking. Even after her betrayal, he uncharacteristically refused to criticize her.
And now, she was even more of a shell of her former self. It broke his heart to see her as she was at that moment. So, without another word, he wrapped his arms around her and let her cry into his shoulder.
“I will always forgive you.” he whispered simply into her ear, “Always,”
(Yes! I’ve missed these! Post ALL the excerpts!)
Suddenly, time stopped
I didn’t know what to do
Without her with me
(haiku 26)
And then there she was
Lips purple and skin pale white
And yet, no tears came
(haiku 25)
